It’s very low impact on your hands if you’re pacing yourself. I struggle with grip often and even on my weaker days I was still able to do it, just a little slower but still able. The hook tool thing was really comfortable too. Like I said, the extra pieces were a life saver! I always get anxious with other kits knowing that if I lose something (which I do often because memory problems) that it’s just money down the drain but about 1/3 of the way in I knew I’d have plenty. Your designs are also so cool. Latch hooking has been something I’ve wanted to do for a while but the available kits were a bit…old lady…which is fine, but not for me! The packing was also super cute. It’s really easy to figure out and the fact that there’s a little room for error due to the nature of the wool and layout it’s okay if you make a mistake here and there.

There are many types of rug making, from rag rugs to rug tufting! Our rug making kits use a technique called latch-hooking to help you create a wonderful rug with no previous skills needed. We’ve designed our kits to be as easy as possible to complete - which means no messy glue or stitching necessary!

Latch hooking is a form of rug making where you fill a canvas (that’s the material you stitch on) with yarn knots to create a full rug. The knots are made with the help of a metal latch-hooking tool. The great thing about latch-hooking is that you only need to learn one technique to create your entire rug! No need to learn and memorise complicated techniques.

Traditionally latch-hooking is made with a blank canvas and a pattern would be used to make the design. You would also cut your own pieces of yarn, which can take a fair bit of time when you need 100s of pieces! What makes our kits so special is that our canvas is pre-printed with your design and your yarn is pre-cut by us. AND we stitch on the backing of the rug for you, so it’s ready to use as soon as you’ve finished.

What this means for you is you’re guaranteed to be able to complete your masterpiece easily! No need to be an artist, no creative skills needed. In fact, the whole point of our kits is to empower your creativity so you can go on your merry way and make more amazing things. HOORAY!

Each rug will take between 15-30hrs to complete, depending on how quickly you are working. What I like to say is that it’s about a month of casual but frequent stitching. So if most weeknights you do a bit of stitching while watching TV, you’ll have created your own piece in only a month!

Everything you need to make your very own beautiful rug for your home! Our kits include a high quality pre-backed canvas with printed design, pre-cut yarn in every colour you will need (plus extra for practice and mistakes!), a premium wooden latch-hook and detailed instructions. We also include a QR code to our video tutorials online!

The only extra thing you’ll need is a pair of scissors. We recommend using medium sized scissors that are nice and sharp so you get clean cuts on your yarn. 

You can use any scissors you’re comfortable with, but we love our ‘Rug Trimming Scissors’ as they are the perfect size for working on your rug. They are extra sharp and made of high quality steel. Plus they look pretty damn cute in a craft box too!

We use acrylic yarn in our rug making kits, as it allows us to make a large sized rug and sell it at a price point that is as accessible as possible.

We also use premium latch hooks in our kits, made from sturdy stainless steel and wood. They will last you a lifetime of latch-hooking.

We’ve tried to be as sustainable as possible with our packaging. Our packaging is 100% recyclable and we’ve minimised the use of plastic as much as we can. 

The box that our rug kit comes in is natural cardboard and we ship them as-is with no additional packaging. 

The only plastic in our kits is the thin plastic that holds our rolls of yarn together. This plastic is 100% recyclable when you use the soft plastics recycle bin at your local grocery store.

Each rug has it's own unique measurements depending on it's size and shape. You can see the exact measurements of each design on the product page.

Our larger rugs are approximately bath mat sized, between 60-70cm in diameter depending on the design.

We're working on reducing our rug sizes marginally as we received lots of feedback that the rugs were super fun but take a long time to complete! Our new sizes will be approximately 48-50cm (instead of 57-60cm). This makes them large enough to stand out in your space, but small enough to be easily completed!

If you want a larger piece, our XL LILAC BLOOM Rug is super sized and sits at 70cm in diameter!

For all of our craft kits you will need a pair of scissors.

If you’re working on a cross stitch kit we recommend using scissors that are either small or medium in size - avoid your kitchen scissors if you can! Both are ‘Embroidery Scissors’ and ‘Rug Trimming Scissors’ are great for cross stitching. This is because both have a sharp smaller blade that is perfect for precise snipping.

Our rugs have been designed with a sturdy backing meaning that you can display it on your floor as soon as you’ve completed it! How easy is that?

If you’re more keen to display your masterpiece at eye-level, our rugs are perfect for hanging on your wall! Just as you would with a poster or tapestry piece. Check out our next FAQ to see how to hang up your rug.

PSA pets love our rugs. We mean it. If you have a cat or a dog (or any other cuddly pet for that matter) we promise they will find your finished rug like a heat seeking missile. It’s for this reason that we highly recommend using your rug as a pet bed! Your fur child will thank you for your sacrifice.

Our rugs can also be used as decorative throws on your bed or sofa. They look great draped over the back of an armchair or layered with some cushions. There’s so many funky things you can do with your handmade piece of decor!

We recommend using adhesive hooks to hang your masterpiece up on your wall. Our favourites to use are the Command Hooks in their 'decorating hooks' size. The backing on your rug has lots of tiny little holes which can easily hold onto the adhesive hooks.

You will need at least 3 hooks to hang up your rug, one for the highest point and two for either side of that point. For a round rug that means the top point of your rug and the two sides. For a rectangle rug, you will hook both corners of the rug and then hook the middle top for extra support. 

Take your time when hanging up your rug - they do need a bit of readjusting to make them totally even. But it’s worth the fuss!

It is a priority for us to ship our kits with as little negative impact on the environment as possible! Which is why we use an eco-option for all of our shipping.

If you are ordering a single rug kit, your rug will be sent without additional packaging in order to minimise waste. Your kit will be sealed with plastic-free shipping tape and the shipping label stuck on the outside of the kit. The cardboard box our kits come in is very sturdy, and we’ve never had issues shipping it as is! And our kits have travelled all around the world. 

If you order multiple kits they will be shipped in either a biodegradable polymailer or a cardboard box which is 100% recyclable.

If you’ve ordered any accessories such as our rug trimming scissors, these will be included inside your kit.

We DO NOT recommend putting your finished rug inside the washing machine. This is a handmade piece and should be treated with extra care to ensure it lives a long life. 

Our rugs can be hand washed with either cold or lukewarm water and a mild detergent. To remove general dirt, let the rug soak in this water for a few minutes and lay flat to dry. If you have a specific stain you can give it a gentle scrub with your hands to spot clean. 

If a small area of your rug has been particularly damaged (let’s say you dropped a piece of chocolate and it melted) you can even take out the stained pieces of yarn and latch-hook new knots into that space using the excess yarn that came with your kit. Whist this is not recommended for larger areas (you don’t want to re-make the whole rug) it is a good solution for any sticky situations.

The see cross stitching as embroidery’s easier younger sibling. Cross stitch (or x-stitch) is a form of embroidery that involves stitching tiny little ‘x’ shapes into fabric that is pre-made with holes. Each ‘x’ comes together to make a picture, kind of like pixel art!

The Aida fabric is kind of like a grid, and each ‘x’ has it’s spot on the grid according to your pattern. Starting from the middle (where the red lines are) you will count spaces on your grid and stitch an ‘x’ where the coloured squares are on your pattern.

The great thing about cross stitching is that it really doesn’t require any existing knowledge or skills in embroidery. As you’re only making little ‘x’s, it’s foolproof! There’s no need to perfect your skills in different stitch types and it’s super easy to unstitch and mistakes.

The only thing you need to cross stitch is the ability to count your pattern. Simple as that!

One thing that makes our kits super special and packed with value is that we give you full skeins of thread for every single colour you’ll need. A skein is the name we use to describe a little bundle of thread. That’s a ton of thread! That’s enough thread to make your piece multiple times over.

Now this really depends on the pattern you’ve chosen, the more space that is filled by the design, the longer it will take to stitch. 

If you’re a beginner and want to start with something easy, we recommend our ‘Floral Friends’ designs (that’s our ‘Cat Amongst the Pot Plants’, our ‘Pup & the Plants’ and our ‘Bee & Blossom’ designs as they all have quite a bit of white space. They’ve been designed to have ‘chunks’ you can work on slowly, which means you will complete your piece methodically within a few sessions of stitching! 

Our larger pieces, such as our ‘Picnic Basket’ bundle will take a bit longer to stitch because more of the hoop is filled with the design. This doesn’t make them significantly harder to stitch - they just require a bit more time. We recommend these for motivated beginners or experienced stitchers.

In general a piece will take anywhere between 4-20hrs to stitch. If you’re a newbie it might take a few hours to really get used to stitching and learning how to stitch faster. But if you’ve got stitching experience, you’ll be able to whizz through your piece while watching your favourite show.

Our cross stitch kits use high quality materials for every element.

The thread we use is 100% cotton and is industry leading in quality. If you’ve used many brands of thread before you’ll notice that our threads are great to work with for both cross stitch and embroidery.

We use 14 count fray-resistant aida in our kits. It is super high quality and made with a poly blend as this allows us to provide a sturdy surface for stitching that won’t fall to pieces while you work. This also means that you don’t need to tape the edges of your piece like you would with other needlework projects that fray.

Our hoops are 100% bamboo with metal clasps. We provide 2x stainless steel needles in our kits and we also include 2x plastic needle threaders to make it as easy as possible to get stitching.

We’ve tried to be as sustainable as possible with our packaging. Our packaging is 100% recyclable and we’ve minimised the use of plastic as much as we can. 

Depending on the design you’ve chosen, your cross stitch kit will either come in a cardboard box or a sturdy A4 cardboard envelope. We are in the process of moving all of our kits to boxed packaging as they are better for us when storing them at our warehouse, but we’re doing this gradually in order to minimise waste.

All of the plastic in our cross stitch kits is 100% recyclable when you use the soft plastics recycle bin at your local grocery store.

All of our cross stitch kits are shipped inside 100% biodegradable polymailers. If you’ve also ordered a rug kit, your order may also be shipped in a cardboard box which is 100% recyclable.

Our cross stitch kits will be sent with regular Auspost shipping and you will receive tracking on your order.

Since launching our kits, we have never had a single kit go missing in the letter mail system. However, in the very unlikely case that your order doesn’t show up, just send us an email and we will help sort it out! 

We offer standard shipping for $8 across Australia and $15 express shipping Australia-wide. All of our parcels are sent with Auspost.

We also offer flat rate International shipping. Our rate is $20 AUD for shipping across the globe using Auspost and their International partners.

We ship with Australia Post. Once your order has been dispatched, it will be in its new home in 3-14 days.

Now we have to say 3-14 days to cover our own bums, but generally our standard shipping is a lot quicker if you are in a major metropolitan area and especially speedy if you’re in Sydney.

Yes, all of our orders are tracked with Auspost.

Unfortunately, we do not offer pickup.

When ordering from us, we promise that your order will be fulfilled within 5 working days. However we usually fulfil much quicker within 48hrs! 

Our warehouse is based in Marrickville, Sydney and our team works on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings to fulfil. If you place an order in the afternoon or evening of one of these days, it will be fulfilled on the next warehouse day. For example, if you order on a Monday evening it will be fulfilled on the Wednesday morning and sent off to Auspost that afternoon. Please keep this in mind if you are ordering an item for a special occasion and tossing up between standard or express shipping.
